Mark Hails Recruitment Success
New Zealand First Law and Order spokesperson Ron Mark has today welcomed the news that the drive to recruit 1000 more
sworn police and 250 non-sworn over the next three years is well on track.
The commitment to boost police numbers was secured by New Zealand First as part of its confidence and supply agreement
with Labour.
“Our policy is to provide the Police with the resources they need to increase their performance and their retention.
This is why the commitment to a large increase in both sworn and non-sworn officer numbers was a key priority in the
negotiation of the confidence and supply agreement.
“Our predictions about the benefits of making such a substantial commitment to the Police are already proving to be
correct. With the commitment to increase their numbers, Police are beginning to see declining attrition rates and
increasing numbers of high quality candidates being attracted to policing as a career.
“It’s our record of successes, such as the commitment to extra police, that continue to prove that New Zealand First is
making a difference in law and order. Perhaps outspoken opponents of the recruitment drive might try to be more
constructive in future rather than constantly yearning for it to fail,” said Mr Mark.
