Mark Disappointed By Further Delay In Police Conduct Inquiry
Another delay in the report from the Commission of Inquiry into police conduct is disappointing to New Zealand First
and represents a further setback in the long road towards fully restoring public confidence in the Police, says Law and
Order Spokesperson, Ron Mark.
The Commission was set up in 2004 to look into behaviour and procedures following several allegations of sexual assault
made against members of the police. The report was originally planned for release in November 2004 but Internal Affairs
Minister, Rick Barker, announced today that the deadline for the report has been extended to March 2007.
“If there have been further complications which have resulted in this delay, Internal Affairs should let the public know
what they are.
“The Police have had several public confidence setbacks over the past few years and this inquiry will form an important
part of restoring that confidence.
“In addition, the current review of the Police Act needs to take account of the findings of the inquiry so further
delays to the report date are simply not helpful,” said Mr Mark.
