Dunne urges less haste on Foreshore Bill
United Future leader Peter Dunne today described as 'extremely premature' media speculation that United Future's three
votes in Parliament will be crucial in deciding whether the Maori Party's bill to repeal the Foreshore and Seabed Act
will succeed.
"There's a very long way to go before we get down to votes in the House and it's really quite ridiculous to be wasting
time speculating about something that may never happen," he said.
"As a Member's Bill, it first has to go into the ballot with the other 40-odd Bills that have been entered, then it has
to be drawn.
"Only at that point will United Future even turn its mind to the legislation and its attitude to it. In the meantime,
it is no different from the countless other proposals on all sorts of topics floating around in the political ether, and
should not be taken any more seriously than that.
"This is a very long process with much room for discussion and debate before we come down to deciding whose votes will
be crucial or not," said Mr Dunne.
