Labour red faced over leaky building ‘beat up’
National Party Housing spokesman Phil Heatley says Labour has been left red faced by revelations that a number of state
homes have been hit by leaky building syndrome.
“I’m sure the Prime Minister remembers the attack she led on the media over the issue. It was ill advised and arrogant.”
Mr Heatley is referring to figures released under the Official Information Act which show 141 state homes are showing
visual signs of leaky building syndrome.
More than a third of the houses have been built since 1999.
“I’m guessing that Labour will dip into the taxpayer pocket to pay for repairs and won’t bother with the Leaky Homes
Resolution Service which is proving to be such a disappointment for private home owners.”
Mr Heatley wants to know how long HNZ and the Minister have known about the problems.
“Has the Minister done the responsible thing and warned tenants of the potential health risks associated with leaky
buildings, or is Mr Carter keeping them in the dark?”
