Council fed up with lack of action on party pills
National MP Jacqui Dean says local authorities are fed up with Associate Health Minister Jim Anderton's sluggish
response to calls for restrictions on the sale of party pills.
She is commenting following Queenstown Lakes District Council's adoption of a draft policy that would mean party pills
would no longer be available for sale on licensed premises.
"Jim Anderton has waffled on for months about being strong on party pills. We've had a number of reports and surveys
leading to calls for the Government to restrict their sale, but no action," says Mrs Dean.
"It's clear the Queenstown Lakes District Council has had enough and is taking things into its own hands.
"Though I applaud the steps taken by the council, the Government should have acted more quickly." Mrs Dean has been
spearheading a campaign to clamp down on the sale of party pills. Her petition to do just that is being considered by
Parliament's health select committee.
