Another Corrections shambles: prisoner harasses women by text
National Party Law and Order spokesman Simon Power says he is stunned by the revelation that an inmate from Christchurch Prison is harassing women by text and the Corrections Department appears to be doing nothing about it.
Mr Power has obtained a memo from the Real Estate Institute that warns agents that a prisoner is targeting female salespeople by making inquiries about properties for sale.
"He asks for information to be sent to Private Bag 4726 Christchurch, which is the address of Christchurch Prison, and follows up with offensive and obscene texts.
"Despite bringing the matter to the attention of the prison, all the real estate agents have been told is that they shouldn't reply to the texts.
"Corrections should be able to tell the victims of these crimes that this person has been shut down and has been charged over these offences.
"And how did he get a phone in the first place? They are meant to be contraband.
"Corrections' pathetic response to this is another example of the management shambles it has descended into under this Government," says Mr Power.
