If it’s good enough for the Police, it’s good enough for DoL
National’s Industrial Relations spokesman, Wayne Mapp, says the Department of Labour cannot continue to refuse to
investigate allegations against Taito Phillip Field in light of damning new claims.
“If it’s good enough for the Police to investigate, surely it’s good enough for the Department of Labour.
“The Department has said that it needs new evidence in order to investigate whereas the Police are prepared to launch an
investigation based on new allegations.”
Media reports last weekend alleged that Mr Field’s wife, Maxine Field, signed Sunan Siriwan’s Samoan immigration
documents as his employer and that Mr Siriwan’s working visa was granted on the condition of his continued employment
with Field.
This is in direct contradiction to assertions made by both Mr and Mrs Field that there was no employment relationship
with Mr Siriwan.
Dr Mapp says these new revelations cast insurmountable doubt over the credibility of the findings of the Ingram Report.
“The report could not find conclusive evidence of an employment relationship between Field and Siriwan, a fact which
played a significant part in the findings of the overall report.
“The Department of Labour must now use its powers, which are much greater than those afforded to Dr Ingram in his
inquiry, to carry out a proper investigation into these very serious allegations,” says Dr Mapp.
