Peachey appalled by Principals’ Federation comments
National’s Associate Education spokesman, Allan Peachey, says he is appalled at the hostility of Principals’ Federation
President Pat Newman towards parents of children with special needs.
In response to a plan from the IHC and parents of children with special needs to prepare a code of rights for their
children, Mr Newman dismissed their concerns and claims of discrimination.
Mr Peachey, who has responsibility for special education, says he is shocked at the lack of sensitivity displayed by Mr
Newman towards a group of parents seeking the best for their children.
“No parent should be disparaged for that.
“The Principals’ Federation might like to consider whether it is being well served by the intemperate comments of Mr
Newman.
“Mr Newman’s comments will only add to the feelings of powerlessness and frustration felts by these parents as they
advocate for the best interests of their children,” says Mr Peachey.
