Independent inquiry needed into Corrections tragedy
National’s Law and Order spokesman, Simon Power, says it is essential that the tragic death of a 17-year-old man in Corrections care is subject to a full and independent investigation.
“The nature of this incident warrants an inquiry totally independent of all of the agencies involved.
"This should be a proper independent inquiry with full terms of reference, that gets answers to the tough questions and holds to account those found to be responsible
“It would seem that an inquiry conducted by a retired Judge or the like would be an appropriate and independent way of looking at the processes that allowed this tragedy to occur,” says Mr Power.
