Police Congratulated For Public Briefing

ACT National Security Spokesman, Heather Roy, has congratulated Waitakere police on holding their first public briefing.
"Justice should not only be done, but be seen to be done. Police should be congratulated for being so open and upfront
with the Waitakere community", Mrs Roy said.
"In a relatively small country, there is no reason for our public services to be isolated from the Kiwis they help.
"Police have been experiencing a crisis in public confidence, and I am glad they are thinking innovatively to reconnect
with the community.
"Telling the public where police officers' priorities lie makes them more transparent and accountable to the public they
serve.
"Other government departments should feel encouraged to be similarly open with their information.
"Imagine if Kiwis could receive a briefing from Child, Youth and Family or the Ministry of Health on their priorities.
"If Kiwis had access to more information, and more say about how New Zealand was run, they would make better choices
than politicians and bureaucrats", Mrs Roy said.
