Notice of motion on Field
The National Party plans to put its own notice of motion on Taito Phillip Field before Parliament today.
"Corruption can't be tolerated, no matter how slim Labour's majority is," says Shadow Leader of the House Gerry
Brownlee.
National will again oppose a Green Party notice of motion which lets Field off the hook with a half-hearted apology for
'some inferences which may have been drawn from the reporting of the Ingram report'. Instead, National plans to put its
own notice of motion.
"If the Greens are really serious about moving towards restoring the integrity of Parliament they should support our
motion today. I invite other parties in Parliament to do the same."
Mr Brownlee says the handling of the Field affair has left a stain on all MPs.
"From the very start Helen Clark set up the Field inquiry to fail. Now, she and other Labour Ministers are stonewalling
further attempts to get proper responses to many of the unanswered questions in the Field report," says Mr Brownlee.
The notice of motion reads:'That this House expresses its deep concern at the allegations left unresolved against Taito
Phillip Field in the report of Noel Ingram QC, notes that the reputation of the whole Parliament, and each of its
Members will suffer serious damage until such allegations are properly resolved, and therefore refers the Ingram report
to the Privileges Committee, with the direction that it should make such enquiry as necessary to provide this House with
a final resolution of the matter'.
