Brash requests Transpower briefing
National Party Leader Don Brash has requested a formal briefing from Transpower regarding the state of the national grid into Auckland, in light of last week’s power outage in the city.
“Last week’s blackout has raised some very serious questions about security of electricity supply – one of the most crucial factors driving economic growth.
“It is an issue that will transcend the life of any government and, for that reason, it is essential that the major opposition party is briefed on issues and developments that relate to it.
“To better understand the situation, I have requested a briefing on the state of the national grid into our biggest economic centre and an analysis of any findings Transpower may have reached to date on the cause or causes of last Monday’s power outage.
“I am also interested in having the briefing include an overview of Transpower’s investment plans for the national grid into and through Auckland, along with the company’s assessment of any potential risks and impediments to achieving timely implementation of such investments.
“There is no reason for this information to be kept in-house,” says Dr Brash.
