Wellington MPs Unite to Save Iconic Trolley Buses
A Joint Press Release by :
Sue Kedgley, Greens MP
Mark Blumsky, National MP
Hon Marian Hobbs, Labour MP
Wellington MPs from across the political spectrum have taken the unusual move of uniting to ensure the Wellington
trolley buses continue to roll.
"These trolley buses are an iconic feature of Wellington. They contribute to the vibrancy of this city which I just
love. It is clear politicians need to put aside party differences to ensure the trolley buses have a viable future. The
decision makers need to be aware of our public and united support," says National MP Mark Blumsky.
"I think the Government appreciates how much Wellingtonians value the trolley buses. I am confident that together we can
help to broker a solution. We will be making a cross-party call to Local and Central Government to make sure the trolley
buses are protected," says Labour MP Marian Hobbs.
"Trolley buses are quieter and better for the environment because they don't pump diesel fumes into our atmosphere, or
rely on oil. We must protect and upgrade our trolley bus fleet which is the envy of other cities. It is great to see MPs
working together to remove any blockages in the process in a way which transcends politics. This is how MMP should
work," says Green MP Sue Kedgley.
The MPs are confident their campaign will be successful and that the iconic trolley buses will continue to be seen on
Wellington streets for a long time to come.
