PM warming public up for Mallard in finance role
Indications Finance Minister Michael Cullen may not hold the portfolio much longer clearly show he's run out of puff
and new ideas, says National Finance spokesman John Key.
Mr Key was responding to reported comments from Prime Minister Helen Clark, which have reinforced speculation that Dr
Cullen may not be in the finance role much longer.
"Dr Cullen inherited a strong economy but his policy prescriptions over the past six years - particularly his huge tax
grab - have been found wanting," says Mr Key.
"Helen Clark is now warming the public up for Trevor Mallard to take over the finance role, but she'll need more than a
bunsen burner to warm the public up to that idea.
"After the disaster of Budget 2005 Dr Cullen has lost the confidence of his caucus, and he's out of touch with the
majority of overtaxed New Zealanders."
