Delays in youth justice centre opening cost $65,000
Labour Minister Ruth Dyson has acknowledged there were delays in the construction of the Rolleston Youth Justice
Facility, and that the delays cost $65,000, says National Party Associate Law and Order spokesman Chester Borrows.
He is commenting on answers from Ms Dyson, the Associate Minister of Social Development and Employment, to parliamentary
questions.
"You've got to wonder where the money has come from and which area of Youth Justice will miss out on much needed funding
as a result of the delays," says Mr Borrows.
"Ruth Dyson's answers fail to give any details about the causes for the delay, and for the extra costs, which is
information the public have a right to know.
"There is growing unease about the position youth justice has held within CYF, and its amalgamation into the Ministry of
Social Development is further cause for concern.
"The Minister needs to assure the public that youth justice - already the poor cousin within CYF - will not be further
neglected when it becomes part of the Ministry of Social Development.
"She also needs to front up to explain which part of youth justice has been robbed of $65,000,” says Mr Borrows.
