Statement from Ruth Dyson following today's exchange in the House regarding the difference between tortious and torture.
"How can Judith Collins claims be given credence when she demonstrates a lack of basic reading and writing
comprehension?" Child Youth and Family Minister Ruth Dyson asked today.
The Minister is alluding to the extraordinary claim from Ms Collins that CYF staff were "torturing" children.
Unfortunately for Ms Collins, she has mixed up information given in response to a parliamentary question that some CYF
staff were facing employment court proceedings for 'tortious' claims.
"The revelation that Ms Collins, who comes from a background in law, does not recognise this common law term is an
extraordinary indictment on her," Ruth Dyson said.
"She is either being deliberately misleading or she's incompetent.
"Perhaps Ms Collins should stop knocking New Zealand's hard working social workers and contribute something more
constructive to their task of helping our most vulnerable members of society."
