Police review a golden opportunity
National supports anything that improves the working conditions of police officers, and the review of the Police Act, with its public consultation phase, provides the opportunity to do that, says National's Law & Order spokesman, Simon Power.
"It's just a great pity that they will have to wait nearly two years for any changes to come about," says Mr Power.
"This is a golden opportunity to dramatically improve the lot of our overworked and understaffed frontline police, but we will be waiting to see what the legislation is like before committing to anything.
"The bottom line is that any changes must be made with the full support of frontline police, as well as rural officers, who are often left isolated when it comes to decision time," says Mr Power.
