NZ congratulates new Canadian PM
Prime Minister Helen Clark today congratulated Canada's Prime Minister-elect, Stephen Harper.
Helen Clark said she looks forward to meeting Mr Harper later this year at the APEC Summit.
"New Zealand has a very close and warm relationship with Canada, with many shared values and close people-to-people links.
“New Zealand and Canada are both strong supporters of multilateralism and enjoy very close working relationships within the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and other international arenas. We share similar perspectives on many issues of international concern, including the environment, international security and peacekeeping, human rights, and disarmament.
“New Zealand also works closely with Canada on trade issues, in particular in the WTO's Doha agriculture negotiations where we have common interests as members of the Cairns Group.
"I look forward to working with the new Prime Minister on both bilateral and international issues," Helen Clark said.
