PM encourages nominations for honours
Prime Minister Helen Clark is inviting New Zealanders to nominate individuals for consideration for the Queen’s Birthday and subsequent honours lists.
“The honours system – now a distinctly New Zealand one – provides the opportunity for New Zealanders from all walks of life to be recognised for outstanding achievements and dedicated service. Many New Zealanders deserve to be honoured and their names should be put forward.
“A core feature of the New Zealand system is that anyone can nominate someone for an honour.
“In recent years the number of nominations from which selections are made has increased after the public has responded warmly to invitations to nominate those whose work in the community they believe deserves recognition.
“This public response is very important in helping ensure that the nominations we receive and the honours which are awarded reflect and recognise the wide range of contributions made to our community by our fellow citizens.
“In late March the government will be looking at the nominations received for inclusion in the next honour’s list, the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2006. All nominations received by mid-February will be considered,” Helen Clark said.
Nomination forms are available from Members of Parliament and Electorate Offices, and from the Honours Secretariat, Cabinet Office, Parliament Buildings, Wellington.
The form and information on the New Zealand Royal Honours System may be found on http://www.honours.govt.nz
