New Chair for NZQA
Sue Suckling has been appointed as Chair of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Board, effective from 1 April 2006, Education Minister Steve Maharey announced today.
"I am delighted that Sue Suckling will be taking up this important role as we work to rebuild confidence in our national system of assessment," Steve Maharey said.
"Sue has considerable leadership experience in both the public and private sectors. She is currently Board Chair of both the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Ltd and AgriQuality Ltd.
"Her other current governance roles are as Chair of Barkers Fruit Processors Ltd, The Oxford Clinic in Christchurch, the Carson Group, and as a member of the Takeovers Panel."
Catherine Gibson has been Acting Chair since the departure of previous Chair Graeme Fraser in May 2005. She will continue in this role until the end of March 2006 when she will return to her position as a Board Member.
Catherine Gibson is the longest serving member of the NZQA Board. She has vast experience in education and a background of public sector governance and management at a senior level.
Steve Maharey said Catherine Gibson was continuing to provide effective leadership through a challenging period for NZQA.
