Minister signs on dotted line for milk bottles
Minister for the Environment David Benson-Pope has signed the Green Party's petition to save the South Island's iconic
glass milk bottle, Green Spokesperson on Waste Nandor Tanczos said today.
Gone from the North Island, about one-third of South Islanders still get their milk in glass bottles, however, new
Meadow Fresh boss Graeme Hart is rumoured to be planning to dump them in favour of one-use plastic containers.
"I am stoked that David has got on board the campaign to stop Meadow Fresh from ditching glass milk bottles," Nandor
said.
"I hope other MPs will follow the minister's lead and get behind this campaign. New Zealanders need to let the dairy
tycoon know they won't be milked for his personal profit.
There are so many reasons to keep the glass milk bottle - it tastes better and more importantly they are so much more
environmentally sound. In fact we North Islanders should be asking why we can't get ours back, Nandor said.
