THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN
New Zealand First is pleased that the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee has approved an inquiry into the affairs
of TVNZ.
“I asked the Minister of Broadcasting in the House yesterday whether he would support an inquiry, and he said that there
was no need for one,” said Broadcasting spokesperson Pita Paraone.
“The committee plainly thought otherwise, and TVNZ will now undergo the scrutiny that it should have been under all
along.
“New Zealand First would like to see an end to the TVNZ experiment which has seen it try to be all things to all people
and fail miserably, which was predictable.
“The organisation needs to be restructured to reflect the reality that a modern democracy such as New Zealand needs to
be served by a publicly owned and operated television and radio network.
“I am confident that the committee will see very clearly what is needed at TVNZ,” said Mr Paraone.
