Save Winston's Baubles? Not likely
National's Deputy Leader, Gerry Brownlee, says National will not support the party-hopping law, which was introduced to
Parliament yesterday.
"There's no way we will be supporting the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill.
"For a start it has been misnamed - it should be called the Save Winston's (Lack of Integrity) Baubles Bill.
"You just need to see who its main sponsor is to know what is going on.
"Winston Peters is very worried that his own party will cut him loose for grabbing the baubles of office and leaving
them out in the cold, so he needs this bill to retain some sort of relevance.
"His party will disintegrate without it.
"He is so worried about this happening that he even made it one of the main conditions in his dark agreement with Helen
Clark.
"Winston Peters can wish all he likes, but National will not support this bill, and I have my doubts about how many
others will.
"He could have at least checked with other parties before crowing about how much support he has," Mr Brownlee says.
