Hon Parekura Horomia
Minister of Mäori Affairs 2 November 2005 Speech notes
Whanau o Nga Kaitiaki Hauora o Waikaremoana
Mihi
It is a privilege to be invited to celebrate a range of achievements with the whanau of Waikaremoana. I love escaping to
this special part of Aotearoa and to be on a day when we are celebrating Maori success is an added bonus.
I pay respects to the Kuia and Koroua of Waikaremoana who have inspired many of these achievements and whose support has
been unfailing and dependable.
I honour Aunty Maria Waiwai who is 84 today, and her sister Lovey Hook who is celebrating her 83rd birthday and their
contribution to this community and the whanau here.
To Nga Kaitiaki Hauora o Waikaremoana I congratulate you on your achievement in gaining the Internationally recognised
ISO 9001:2000 Accreditation Certification
I am well aware that Aileen and her team have been working diligently for the past three years to meet very stringent
quality management and service delivery standards that withstand international scrutiny and constant monitoring and
assessment from the accrediting body.
Well done to your Trustees and the Hauora for persevering with your aspirations to attain this level of recognition as a
Governance body and a Maori Health Service Provider. You now have an important key to aid in realising your aspirations
and adding to them. This level of accreditation puts your Trust on an even par with big industry and mainstream service
and product delivery.
Trustees, management, staff and whanau within your organisation and community should be proud of this achievement. You
all need to maintain your commitment and the high quality standards set out by ISO to ensure you maintain recognition as
a quality service provider standing alongside other more established, long term and traditional service providers. I
understand you are the fourth Maori health provider in Hawkes Bay to have attained this accreditation, what a great
achievement that is. Well done to you all.
The Nga Kaitiaki o Waikaremoana Hauora has provided health services to the Waikaremoana community since 1995. The
ten-year journey has as with every journey had its ups and downs, but you've made it and there are many things to
celebrate today.
I want to also acknowledge Waikaremoana - rangatahi, pakeke and kuia and their achievements.
It is now my absolute pleasure to present this ISO 9001:2000 Accreditation Certificate to Nga Kaitiaki Hauora O
Waikaremoana in recognition of what Maori, community and whanau have achieved here in Waikaremoana – Maori succeeding as
Maori.
Once again, congratulations.
