'MPs for Transmission Gully' launched
Wellington-based National MPs Mark Blumsky, Chris Finlayson and Nathan Guy today launched 'MPs for Transmission Gully',
a parliamentary lobby group designed to provide the leadership to get Transmission Gully built.
The MPs are writing to other MPs in the region, seeking their support.
They say cross-party support is the best way to move forward with Transmission Gully.
"We are confident that we have the support of some of the minor parties, and Labour's Winnie Laban and Darren Hughes
indicated their support during the campaign, so we are feeling pretty confident," says Mr Blumsky.
Mr Finlayson says the proposed alternative, the widening of the coastal route, will destroy communities, and serious
consent issues may prevent it from progressing at all.
Mr Guy says Transmission Gully is both affordable and do-able and should not be delayed any longer.
"Kapiti commuters are frustrated by the 40-plus reports on the Western Corridor. They want action and overwhelmingly
support Transmission Gully as the solution to their transport woes."
The MPs say getting Transmission Gully built is what counts and if it has to be done in two stages, which is one
proposal, they will support that move.
