Labour caught in double standard on eviction notices
National Party MP Katherine Rich says the Labour Party has been caught out contradicting itself in a double standard on
its offensive eviction notices sent to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
"On the same day, David Benson-Pope was apologising to Dunedin residents who'd received this bad taste propaganda, Pete
Hodgson was defending it on Newstalk ZB.
"Labour should get its story straight. It is either sorry for the hurt and the shock it has caused, or it is not."
Mrs Rich says Helen Clark herself should be the one doing the apologising, given the public 'outrage' she displayed at a
recent campaign by Telecom.
"In July, Helen Clark was urging those who received a 'broadband speeding ticket' from Telecom to complain to the
Advertising Standards Complaints Board."
At the time Helen Clark was quoted as saying 'It makes it look as if you have done something wrong. It's not funny'.
"Helen Clark's employing a double standard here. On one hand she condemns a business for its advertising, and on the
other she allows her campaign strategist to go on the radio and defend these eviction notices.
"It's time for Helen Clark to apologise," says Mrs Rich.
