Workers abandoned by Labour
National Party Leader Don Brash says Labour has abandoned the workers whose taxes are responsible for generating their
record surpluses.
"Labour used to brand itself as the workers' party. How things have changed. At this election, Labour has declared that
it plans to continue overtaxing the wealth generators of this country, the workers.
Dr Brash was visiting two West Auckland businesses on the campaign trail today.
"Our plan for fair tax means that 85% of workers will pay no more than 19% tax.
"For a single worker on $45,000 that works out to be a saving of around $30 a week. Under Labour, they will receive
nothing.
"Our targeted family tax programme will also allow families to get ahead.
"From April 2006 a double-income family with two school-age kids earning around $80,000 will be better off by an extra
$1,700 a year with National, compared with just $308 under Labour.
"From April 2007 the same family will be better off by an extra $2,700 a year with National, compared with just $1,348
under Labour.
"Our plan is to provide the right incentives to work and save.
"Labour has responded to our fair tax proposals with increasingly extreme claims, the latest being that National's tax
cuts will result in a New Orleans-type disaster.
"Fair-minded Kiwis will see through this appalling scare-mongering," said Dr Brash.
