Smear campaign not so Christian
The scale of a smear campaign against the Greens and Labour became more apparent today with the discovery of a third
pamphlet seemingly from hard-line Christians hell-bent on making Don Brash Prime minister by whatever means necessary.
The letter is signed by "Myles and Mary Win" and originates from the same Favona Road, Mangere address as the earlier,
widely distributed 'Green Delusion' pamphlet authorised by "Stephen Win". It was circulated last month to those seen as
"a person of influence in your Community".
Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says the surfacing of this third document proved there is a coordinated covert
smear campaign against the centre-left from those who want Brash and the National Party in power.
"This too could be another front, like the earlier fictitious health group or it could be that a hard-right Christian
element is active in National's campaign," she says.
The letter urges people to use their influence to "stop the moral decline in our country".
It says: "While we are praying for men and women who acknowledge the supremacy of God of whatever political persuasion
to be elected, it seems to us that Don Brash and his party are the only ones with a realistic chance to change the
Government."
The letter was accompanied by a flyer headed "An important message from concerned Christians", which listed numerous
points which it said pointed to Labour being immoral and against the principles of Christianity.
Ms Fitzsimons says: "It seems the Christian right in their enthusiasm to elect Don Brash have failed to notice they have
breached one of the 10 Commandments - the one which forbids lying."
