Restorative justice would end name suppression

The name suppression of a man accused of attacking a truck driver with a hammer highlights all that is wrong with
Labour's soft on crime approach, ACT Justice spokesman Stephen Franks said today.
"It is disgusting that a man who has committed a vicious assault has been granted name suppression while his victim lies
in his hospital bed as a result of the attack.
"ACT's restorative justice policy would have ensured that this man did not get name suppression.
"New Zealanders are sick and tired of Labour's soft on crime approach which sees offenders given name suppression while
their victims suffer.
"New Zealanders have lost confidence in Labour's justice system.
"Only ACT has an absolute commitment to restoring the justice system and ending name suppression for offenders. We will
restore people's faith in the justice system," Mr Franks said.
