New Zealanders will take cold comfort from the latest crime figures given that violent crime had skyrocketed under
Labour, says ACT Deputy Leader and Police spokesman Dr Muriel Newman.
"No matter how Police Minister George Hawkins tries to spin it, under Labour's soft-on-crime approach, violent crime has
ballooned 14 percent," Dr Newman said.
"Law-abiding New Zealanders have a right to feel safe in their homes and on the streets, and under Labour they don't.
"ACT will make New Zealand one of the safest countries in the world by putting an extra 2,500 police on the beat,
focused on catching criminals and not filling Labour's ticket quotas.
"Further, ACT will implement a zero tolerance to crime approach, where every crime is taken seriously, and tougher
sentencing through abolishing parole.
"The only way Kiwis can change this soft-on-crime Labour government and get rid of hopeless George Hawkins, is to Party
Vote ACT," Dr Newman said.
