Labour has no answers on housing
National's Housing spokesman, David Carter, says Labour's housing scheme for people on 'modest' incomes is outrageously
lacking in detail.
He is commenting on Housing Minister Steve Maharey's announcement that Labour will develop a scheme whereby Housing New
Zealand will give some families a contribution towards buying a home.
"So far, all anyone's been told about this policy is that it will help some people on 'modest' incomes to buy a home,"
says Mr Carter. "Where is the information about who this announcement applies to? Where are the facts about who
qualifies? How much will be loaned and how much it will cost?
"The facts simply aren't there. Mr Maharey cannot make a policy announcement and then provide no detail whatsoever about
who is actually going to benefit or how much it is going to cost the taxpayer.
"Labour has thrown this policy together in pure desperation and it shows.
"This is typical of Steve Maharey, the same man who announced the single benefit in 2001 and still hasn't provided us
with any more detail about it.
"This is a panic tactic by a floundering Labour Party that will stop at nothing to be re-elected," says Mr Carter.
