Taxes, protectionism and … currency trading?
National Party Finance spokesman John Key is calling on Michael Cullen to say how many of the Green Party’s new taxes
Labour will introduce.
“Today, the Greens have made it clear they want to increase the excise on fuel, they want to increase the carbon charge
and they want to introduce a raft of eco-taxes.
“Other bizarre initiatives include a return to trade protectionism, and the Greens want the Reserve Bank to play the
foreign currency market.
“New Zealand simply cannot afford to have the Greens in government.
“Any Greens/Labour Government would be extremely damaging to our economy. Investment would be diverted to Australia, and
the brain drain will accelerate.
“Mainstream New Zealanders don’t want more taxes. Hard-working Kiwis want the government to tax them as lightly as
possible, and provide incentives to work harder and get ahead.
“For the benefit of Kiwi taxpayers, Dr Cullen should tell us now how many of the Greens’ taxes he would consider.
“Are they all off the table?
“Only National can be trusted to deliver lower taxes and better incentives for working New Zealanders.
“We have a considered plan that will boost growth and productivity, while putting more money back in workers’ pockets.
“More than two million Kiwis benefit from National’s tax package,” says Mr Key.
