UF announces Christchurch Central candidate
United Future leader Peter Dunne today welcomed the decision by the WIN Party to throw its support behind United Future and the announcement by WIN's leader, John van Buren, that he will stand as United Future's candidate in the Christchurch Central electorate.
Announcing his candidacy at the Provincial Hotel in central Christchurch, Mr van Buren said the WIN Party was founded in January this year because of the smoking ban in bars introduced in December last year.
"Back then I was the licensee of the Wheatsheaf Tavern on Banks Peninsula.
"But the smokefree legislation was the demise of what had been a very successful business.
He said WIN members believed that by enacting and enforcing such legislation the present government was showing little regard for an individual's right and a business person's right to run their businesses in a manner they deem appropriate.
Mr van Buren said the WIN Party has withdrawn its name from the Election 05 ballot paper and he called upon all WIN supporters and those Kiwi voters dissatisfied and disillusioned with the current politically correct regime to give their party vote to United Future.
"A vote for United Future is a vote for a return to commonsense and stable governance," said Mr van Buren.
