Dunne: David Lange inspired a nation
Former Prime Minister David Lange, who died overnight, will forever hold a place in New Zealand history as a leader who inspired the nation, United Future leader Peter Dunne said today.
“David was bigger than politics,” Mr Dunne said.
“As well as leading this country through what history now records as a massive period of transition, he in very many ways transcended politics and - particularly in recent years - touched the heart of New Zealand in a way that very few people ever do.
“He was an extraordinary man and he will be missed by many,” Mr Dunne said.
“It is one thing to lead, but altogether another to inspire.
“It was very hard not to admire the full growth of the man in recent years, and the courage and heart with which he faced his health problems and put his life, his work and his contribution to our nation into a very honest perspective,” Mr Dunne said.
