PM should carry the can in convoy disgrace
National Party Deputy Leader Gerry Brownlee says it is nothing short of an absolute disgrace that Helen Clark did not
volunteer to give evidence in her speeding motorcade case.
“The suggestion that Helen Clark had nothing to do with the decision to speed is nonsense, matched only by the ludicrous
claim that she had no idea how fast they were going.
“Was she working, was she talking to Jim Sutton or was she fully aware of what was going around her during the ‘heroic’
drive?
“Day after day, witnesses have been contradicting the story given by the Prime Minister.
“Who are we to trust?
“Do we trust the police minders, who thought they were doing their job, or the Prime Minister, who has staked her
reputation on the most flimsy of excuses?
“Until Helen Clark releases the statement she gave to police, the public will draw their own conclusions from the
evidence presented in court.
“And for Ms Clark, the case doesn’t look good,” says Mr Brownlee.
