National's Defence Policy Is A Claytons' Says Mark
Meaningless drivel was the description New Zealand First afforded National’s defence policy, which was released late
yesterday.
Defence spokesperson Ron Mark said that surely after nine years in government and six in opposition, with the resources
that were available to them, National could have come up with something better than this.
“At a time when concerns over national security have never been higher, the best National can offer is another review,
proving that they lack even a basic understanding on defence matters,” said Mr Mark.
“Anyone who does understand knows what is needed.
‘This a ‘Clayton’s’ policy, which is a policy you have when you don’t have one. It’s pathetic and it confirms that
National cannot be trusted to rebuild New Zealand’s defence forces.
“Not only does New Zealand First fully understand the requirements it has the will to see its policy through.’
“We know we need to build a credible combat force; we know we need to increase the size of the special force capability;
we know we need infantry battalions and an air combat capability; we know we need light tanks and we know we need to pay
people better in order to keep them.’
“We know we DON’T need 105 LAVs, and now we now know we don’t need National.’
“The only thing National got right was to release its policy late on a Friday afternoon in an attempt to hide it,
