Labour plans write-off of liable parent debt
National Party Welfare spokeswoman Judith Collins is appalled that Labour’s only answer to the ballooning debt owed by liable parents is a Bill to write some of it off.
“After six long years of doing nothing, Labour suddenly tries in election year to make it look like it is doing something about the billion dollars owed to the Kiwi taxpayer.”
Ms Collins is commenting after David Cunliffe tabled his Child Support Bill.
“This is a disgrace. Labour is telling absent liable parents that if they dodge their responsibilities for long enough, they’ll get a discount.
“This sends all the wrong messages.
“Labour is merely trying to make the figures look better in election year,” says Ms Collins.
