Leaky homes review too little, too late
The owners of leaky homes will be cynical of Labour’s last-minute acknowledgement of problems with the Weathertight
Homes Resolution Service, and will see the review as a ploy to kick the issue beyond the election, says National’s
Building and Construction spokesman, Nick Smith.
“It’s been obvious for two years that this agency has been completely failing homeowners,” says Dr Smith.
“It has resolved only 13% of claims lodged, despite Labour promising three years ago that it would be a speedy and
cost-effective solution for homeowners.
“The revelation this week that the WHRS has been funding Sound of Music, Cowboy and Indian and Aeroplane theme parties,
as well as lavish Pacific Island awareness days at taxpayer expense, has further highlighted the failings of Labour’s
new agency.
“Labour’s spin doctors will see this review as a way to neutralise the political heat over the way Labour has failed
owners leaky homes till after the election.
“National will be announcing a very different approach to resolving the leaky buildings crisis in coming weeks,” says Dr
Smith.
