United Future condemns NZ First’s campaign of hate
United Future leader Peter Dunne said today that New Zealand First leader Winston Peters’ latest electioneering campaign of whipping up racial and religious hatred against the Muslim community in New Zealand was plumbing new depths of intolerance.
“Mr Peters’ bully-boy letters to Muslim leaders demanding they prove their innocence is a reversal of the usual New Zealand norm which says the accuser must prove guilt.
“But of course, all we are seeing here is Mr Peters’ usual tactic of cynical manipulation seeking to split and divide communities.
“When was the last time Mr Peters wrote to Irish people in New Zealand demanding they dob in all their IRA terrorist friends?
“When did he write to Spaniards in New Zealand seeking the whereabouts of Basque terrorists?
“There are terrorists in Nepal and Peru, but Mr Peters seems remarkably unconcerned about whether they are here in New Zealand.
“A politician without principle like Mr Peters is a disgrace to this country and I expect the voters to reject his hate-filled tactics,” said Mr Dunne.
