TVNZ Spends $52,000 Tax Payer Dollars On Mid Winter Shindig Says Peters
“An excessive $52,000 mid winter shindig is further evidence TVNZ has done nothing to curb its culture of extravagance”, says New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“These issues were meant to have been cleared up following a 2004 select committee inquiry into TVNZ accountability for public money, and yet the extravagance shows no sign of letting up.
“This organisation set a shocking benchmark for outrageous celebrity salary packages, and has continued to make a fallacy of Labour Minister’s claims that they would reign in TVNZ’s excesses.
“TVNZ has a long history of reckless wastefulness with millions of dollars spent on perks, golden handshakes, exorbitant salaries, overgenerous wardrobes, unjustifiable credit card spending and this latest ritzy party shows complete arrogance and disregard for the New Zealand taxpayer.
“It is not good enough and shows where their friends in TVNZ are concerned, that Mr Maharey and Helen Clark are all talk and no action,” said Mr Peters.
