The Resource Management Act needs to be gutted not tinkered with, ACT leader Rodney Hide said today.
"The RMA's flaw is that it fails to recognise private property rights. As a result, the RMA fails environmentally and economically.
"The RMA sets up a political contest over how private landowners can use their own land.
"The RMA needs to be gutted with private property rights put at the heart of sound environmental law.
"The RMA is a product of the two old parties. Labour conceived it and National enacted it.
"Both parties fail to realise how bad the RMA is. If they did they would realise tinkering is not enough," Mr Hide said.
