Copeland calls for government to back off Unlisted
United Future finance spokesperson Gordon Copeland today called on the government to abandon its intentions to impose new regulations on Unlisted ( a successful trading platform for unlisted, New Zealand-based companies).
“The uncertainty created by the government’s announced intentions in this regard is completely unacceptable. The government lauds growth through innovation but can’t resist dreaming up regulations to stifle innovation and enterprise of this kind.
“Like any business, Unlisted should not have to face this kind of uncertainty which has brought rapid expansion to a standstill.
“The very success of Unlisted is surely proof that no further regulation is necessary. There is an old saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. The government sometimes appears to operate on a different principle of “if it ain’t broke but successful, let’s cripple it through red tape.”
“Recent international comparisons show that New Zealand’s current regulatory arrangements are “about right” so why kill the goose which is laying a golden egg?”
