Another pooper scooper moment from Brash?
“Don Brash’s failure to rule out a reduction to GST means either that National’s tax bill just got a whole lot bigger or that Dr Brash has had another pooper-scooper moment,” Finance Minister Michael Cullen said today.
Dr Cullen was commenting on an interview published yesterday in the Rotorua Review in which, asked if National would look at reducing or removing GST, Dr Brash replied: That’s one of the issues that can be addressed, to reduce GST.
“If that is National’s intention, the only sensible reduction in terms of administrative simplicity would be to cut it back to 10 per cent. That would cost around $1.83 billion a year on current estimates, and rising.
“Alternatively, this is just another embarrassing gaffe which Dr Brash will have to clean up after himself,” Dr Cullen said.
