CYF must issue immediate assurance on vetting process
National Party Welfare spokeswoman Judith Collins is worried that a CYF caregiver who has admitted child abuse remains
in the community living near a childcare centre.
“This man has confessed publicly to some very disturbing behaviour. Frankly, I’m concerned he’s still in the community.
“The system has already failed three children, the authorities must act with urgency to ensure there are no more
victims.
“What’s also worrying is that in this instance, CYF ignored the warnings about this man’s character and placed
vulnerable children in his care.
“In this case, the state has taken kids from a dysfunctional home and put them in an even worse situation where they
have been sexually abused.
“This is a monumental stuff up of disturbing proportions. Ruth Dyson must already have some idea of how the vetting
process failed and whether there are other children in at-risk situations.
“If she was confident about the vetting process she wouldn’t need a report.
“CYF ignored the warnings once. Now we need some immediate assurances from the Minister that it won’t happen again,”
says Ms Collins.
