Childcare tax deductions great news for families
National Party Welfare and Families spokeswoman Judith Collins says childcare tax deductions are positive news for families and a great incentive for those on welfare to move into work.
She is commenting on Don Brash’s announcement today that the next National Government will introduce a new tax deduction for pre-school childcare costs to ease the financial pressures on parents, particularly on second-income earners and employed sole parents.
“For people who are on benefits and wanting to move into the workforce, this is very positive news because it removes one of the major barriers to parents moving back into work.
“It is also great because it allows parents far more choice about what form of childcare they choose.
“Not everyone has circumstances that allow them to take their child to a community-based centre, especially people who do shift work and don’t have working hours that correspond with the opening hours of childcare centres,” says Ms Collins.
