Compliance costs affect social services too
The crippling effects of compliance costs don't just affect businesses, they affect charities and social services too,
says National's Welfare and Families spokeswoman, Judith Collins.
She is commenting following today's Parentline Child Summit, where chief executive Maxine Hodgson made a plea to
politicians to reduce compliance costs and red tape.
"Organisations like Parentline find it incredibly difficult to stay afloat when so much of their time and money goes
into huge amounts of paperwork," says Ms Collins.
"Labour's legislation has made groups like Parentline waste valuable dollars on form-filling and box-ticking; money that
should be spent on children in need.
"Small businesses, trusts and charities cannot afford to employ people to deal with compliance, so they do it
themselves, and that distracts them from what they do best.
"National will ease the burden of compliance costs, not just for businesses, but for groups like Parentline as well,"
says Ms Collins.
