TRADE DEFICIT REVEALS TRUE STATE OF THE ECONOMY
“New Zealand’s lack of an export plan is coming back to seriously bite us in the proverbial behind”, says New Zealand First leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters.
Mr Peters was responding to Statistics New Zealand’s announcement today that our trade deficit with the rest of the world is at its worst level since the mid 1970s.
“Trade is New Zealand's lifeblood so when is this government going to realise that frivolously signing Free Trade Agreements with low wage economies of large Asian nations will only make this deficit worse,” said Mr Peters.
“New Zealand First is the only party in parliament which offers a policy of an export plan to address this dangerous trade imbalance.
“We offer an economic policy prescription based on a partnership with the people in promoting sustainable export-led economic growth that will lead to job creation and enable the savings that will facilitate our social progress”, said Mr Peters.
