Political correctness in public institutions should go
National Party MP Wayne Mapp says political correctness is deeply imbedded in New Zealand's public institutions and the
next National Government will get rid of it.
"New Zealanders are intensely irritated by the political correctness that is now prescribing how they should think and
even the words they are supposed to use," says Dr Mapp.
"Labour has spent a great deal of energy promoting minority and alternative causes: the promotion of brothels, civil
unions, and funding and promotion of the Maori spiritual world.
"The unwinding of the PC agenda should start with removing the advocacy role of the Human Rights Commission and the
Waitangi Tribunal.
"The Waitangi Tribunal should be limited to making recommendations on historic claims. For the tribunal to have entered
the debate on the foreshore and seabed issue was tantamount to judges entering into political debate, damaging their
independence.
"Labour has put Maori myths into legislation even though the Prime Minister has banned Christian grace at state
luncheons. National will remove Maori myth from our law.
"The protection of minority rights is a legitimate aspect of any democracy. But when a democracy becomes politically
correct, minority views take precedence over the reasonably held views of the majority.
"In New Zealand that's left the majority feeling alienated and annoyed.
"National will restore freedom to our citizens and restore the true intent of the liberal tradition," says Dr Mapp.
