Ambassador to Canada has no idea
New Zealand’s Ambassador to Canada, Graham Kelly, clearly has no idea about his responsibilities on serving New Zealand’s interests overseas, says National’s Associate Foreign Affairs spokeswoman, Georgina Te Heuheu.
“His remarks about Maori to a Canadian Senate select committee show insensitivity unbecoming of a diplomat in an overseas mission.
“Maori will find these remarks grossly insensitive.
“They are along the same lines and scale of those of Helen Clark last year when she described the Hikoi marchers as ‘haters and wreckers’.
“Any pretence that this is a Government that believes in diversity and inclusiveness has been further torn away.
“If the final nail wasn’t already in the coffin of Labour’s Maori seats, it is now,” Mrs Te Heuheu says.
