"I am alarmed at the Labour Party's blatant use of taxpayers' money to carry out electioneering," says ACT MP Ken
Shirley.
"Bus shelter billboards are springing up around the country displaying the simple message: 'You're Better Off With
Labour'.
"These billboards carry the Labour Party logo together with the Parliamentary crest.
"There are rules on what the Parliamentary crest can be used for. Parliament's Speaker Margaret Wilson is responsible
for upholding Parliament's rules.
"I have therefore written to the Speaker enquiring whether taxpayers' money has been used to fund these Labour Party bus
shelter billboards.
"I also note from previous Parliamentary questions that the Labour Government has budgeted $15 million of taxpayers
money through the Department of Social Welfare and Development to promote the contentious Working for Families package.
Included in this promotional budget is advertising on 133 bus shelters around the country at a cost of $90,000.
"If this departmental money is being used to fund the Labour Party's electioneering billboards then the taxpayer should
be equally alarmed," Mr Shirley said.
